THE MODEL WE USE
Everyday when planning with and working alongside whaikaha, tagata sa'ilimalo (disabled) and whānau/ aiga
Traditional Māori health acknowledges the link between the mind, the spirit, the human connection with whānau, and the physical world in a way that is seamless and uncontrived. Until the introduction of Western medicine there was no division between them.
To give the best to those who need it most, our business operates based on Te Wheke Māori.
The model represented as an octopus developed by Rose Pere (1982) articulates components of an individual and their relationship with each of those components.
The head represents te whānau, the eyes waiora (total wellbeing for the individual and family) and each of the eight tentacles representing a specific dimension of health. The dimensions are interwoven and this represents the close relationship of the tentacles.

The way we use Te Wheke
Means that we support whaikaha and tagata sa'ilimalo to:
-
Live independently – either on your own, with friends or family, or in shared accommodation.
-
Enjoy the interests and hobbies you have and develop new ones.
-
Help you grow your skills.
-
Go on holiday.
-
Keep in touch with the people who are important to you.
As part of your support package, you can expect:
-
To have choice and control at all times about what you do and how you are supported.
-
If you can't speak, we will work with you to find out how you like to communicate.
-
We will work with you to choose your TK carer so they match your personality and interests.
-
We will support you to keep safe and healthy.
-
Your support plan will be regularly reviewed with you, your whānau and aiga to ensure it reflects your goals.
