Our
Story

Establishing Kumanu Takiwatanga wasn't a lightbulb idea, the decision to create Kumanu Takiwatanga was based on our own recruitment experiences to find a service provider who shared our Te Wheke view of self and embraced and encouraged a persons journey to embrace their culture.

It didn't take us long to realise that caring for disabled people wasn't appealing due to a previously poor pay, really short or inconsistent hours of work, and caring roles being really hard work - because their was little support for the carers.

We've decided to change that perception! We pay the living wage (at a min), Our care team regularly connect, we offer additional training and work with our carers to develop career pathways (Yes even if that pathway means they'll leave us eventually).

So here we are, a team of energetic individuals who continually look for ways to move those who want to be "living their best lifes" maintain forward momentum

WE
ARE

A team of Disability trained carers, who support families, whānau and aiga with respite care services.

So that carers can have some time and space to replenish their reserves and overtime refill their cups.

It's our role to tend, care and cherish those in his/ her own space and time
